I saw it in their eyes

I saw it in their eyes
It was the fear of the unknown
Their lives stolen, the hurt yet to come

I saw it in their eyes
Children's tears on thir sad cheeks
Mother wondering what could be done

I saw it in their eyes
The teenage girl's panicked glance
He former dreams of love undone

I saw it in their eyes
The bruised face of the father
The look of anger and hopes all gone

But nothing in the eyes
Just a job and he was paid
Said the masked man holding up his gun

  1. The eyes! The story is told there, of love and fear and profit and loss. You make this so vivid. Thank you.

  2. "Their lives stolen" & the thieves prosper in society. Strange is the way of the world. Beyond sadness.

  4. Your first stanza says so much...the hurt yet to come....in fact I feel that you've expressed so much in such few lines.

  5. This is it exactly - NOTHING in the eyes of the abusers, who are disconnected from soul and human emotion. A strong poem, Robin.

It’s no surprise that human trafficking is the world’s fastest-growing criminal enterprise — and often the penalties aren’t as harsh.
