Waking in darkness

Waking in darkness
Listening to you breathing
Waiting for the dawn

You're not there of course
Birds tap against the window
As the new day comes

Sleeping or awake
I can't get it in my skull
That you've really gone

Sun unfolds the day
I make myself a coffee
And some burnt white toast

Skein of geese flying
Might take a love note to you
That's probable

Brick by brick I try
To find a life once again
Seems impossible

  3. I think this is the favourite of your poems today - it reads from the heart and like all good writing it is the pauses in between the poignant details which convey such depth of feeling

  7. 'Skein of geese' is such a beautiful phrase to me. How poignant to think of it being a message of love from one to another.

  10. So bleak the world might seem when left alone. There is a hope in the skein of geese, and I love how it's set against the throbs of pain.

  13. I so feel this poem, my friend. I wrote in a similar vein yesterday, and there were birds in it too, so I recognize the feelings in these lines. A beautiful write, kiddo. I love the geese taking a message.

  15. Losing someone that was part of our life and routine makes everything feel so alien, takes the light out of things that once we thought would forever shine... I really love flash of possibility we glimpse in the penultimate stanza. It makes the "impossibility" of the last stanza more bearable.
