Was I dreaming?

Was I dreaming?
Hearing children's laughter
The lap of water on the shore
Seagulls hovering overhead

Or unwinding?
From Morpheus's cruel spell
Splash of anchor, rattle of chain
Now rushing, gushing through my mind

Clear blue skies
You leaning against me
We're both relaxed and contented
Now wrapped up in each others arms

Was it all real?
I fear it's but a dream
Our love story is now over
For you've left me all by myself

  2. This is heart breaking. The transition from the first stanza to the second is so real and the ending makes it even more emotional.

  9. I envy you the sweetness of the dreams... the only thing that's better with a nightmare is that I'm happier to be awake... lovely written

  11. This pings at my heart, Robin. But I believe a love like that never dies and is still going on, on either side of the veil.

  14. Your poem does such a good job at describing the sense of loss that fills the heart after we wake up from a place we love, with someone we love... to discover that all is now gone. Such longing...

  17. Yes agree with Wendy who seemed to write precisely what I had in mind. A palpable sense of heart rending loss with the beauty intact.
